Flinders History Research Seminars
Seminars for semester 2 are now on, with the first being held 6 August: 'Cold War, hot rockets: colonialism and technology at the dawn of the Space Age' by Associate Professor Alice Gorman.
Seminars are held Fridays, 11.15am - 12.30pm. Seminars will be held online only via Microsoft Teams until on-campus events can resume. Please contact [email protected] for seminar links.

150 year old cottage proposed for demolition
With the Liberal Government's Planning and Design Code coming into force in March, it has become easier to argue for demolition of heritage places based on cost of repair. An early example of this is a 159 year old stone cottage in Willunga. The Protect Our Heritage Alliance is urging concerned community members to register their opposition to the demolition through the Plan SA website here.

Expressions of Interest: Aboriginal Reference Group
State Records and the State Library of South Australia are calling for expressions of interest from members of the South Australian Aboriginal community to join a joint Aboriginal Reference Group. The group will provide feedback and advice on services, activities, and policies of State Records and the State Library relating to Aboriginal people and culture.

The History Trust of South Australia is moving
The History Trust of South Australia will be relocating from the Torrens Parade Ground to Ayers House. Previously under the care of the National Trust, the building is set for a $6 million upgrade before the History Trust moves in mid-2022.

National Archives of Australia Funding Announcement
The Federal Government has recently announced $67 million in funding for the National Archives of Australia. This is very welcome news, and comes from a concerted publicity campaign lead by journalist Gideon Haigh and historian Graeme Davison. This funding will help digitise at-risk documents and clear backlogs of requests. However, uncertainty regarding the South Australian branch of the NAA remains, and the History Council and members are continuing to investigate and act on this.

Dr. Susan Marsden will be guest speaker at the South Australian Heritage Council's Friday Forum on 20 August 2021. Her talk is titled 'The Twentieth-Century Historic Framework: A Tool for Assessing Heritage Places'. More details are to follow.
