Awards Ceremony and end of History Festival Event
The South Australian History Council, History Trust, and State Library are co-hosting an event on Sunday, 30 May to award the 2021 Historians' Awards, Wakefield Press Essay Prize and HCSA Fellow, and to mark the end of the History Festival. We will notify you of the recipients of these awards in our next newsletter.
2021 History Festival
Held each May, South Australia's 2021 History Festival is upon us with the theme 'Changing landscape of history'. There is something for everybody in this year's program, including talks, tours, workshops, and special events.

Albert Greenman Dedication Memorial Service
For almost a century, the grave of fallen SA Fire Brigade firefighter Albert Greenman lay unmarked. On International Firefighters Day, the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and Country Fire Service (CFS) held a dedication Memorial Service to ensure his memory lives on.

South Australian Medical Heritage Society May Meeting
This month's meeting will feature Dr. Jim Tulloch AM speaking on '45 years of public health'. It will be held at the Royal Society Rooms, Morgan Thomas Lane (off Kintore Avenue). 27 May 2021, 5.30pm.

SA History Festival: The 2020 Time Capsule
As part of this year's history festival, the Adelaide 2020 time capsule will be on display at the Centre of Democracy building on North Terrace from 1-30 May. The time capsule will afterwards be handed over to the History Trust for safekeeping until it is opened in 2040.

Labour History Society Tom Sheridan Scholarship
Awarded annually to an applicant who best demonstrates their capacity or potential to make a significant contribution to our knowledge and understanding of the history of the Australian working class. Nominations are open for the 2022 Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature. Presented every two years during Adelaide Writer's Week, the awards include six national and five South Australian categories. Nominations close 30 June.

Loveday Lives
With the support of The Japan Foundation, Sydney, Loveday Lives is a new website devoted to the history of the Loveday Internment Camp. Located in South Australia's Riverland, Loveday was the largest internment camp in Australia during the Second World War.

Tangent Talks: Conversations behind the Curtain
The State Theatre Company South Australia's popular series Tangent Talks is returning to the State Library. Before each show opens, panels of experts from the creative, academic, political, and medical worlds will gather to discuss and debate the hot topics of each show.

Lowitja O'Donoghue Oration 2021: 'Continuing the Story: Resolving the issues that won't go away'
Delivered by Pat Anderson AO, her oration will continue the story of how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to seek justice and a voice since the 1967 Referendum, drawing on the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The oration will be held 1 June 2021, 6.30-8.00pm at Bonython Hall, North Terrace.

The AIATSIS National Native Title Conference and the National Indigenous Research Conference will be held together over five days, from 31 May to 4 June 2021. Flexible registration packages and alternative modes of delivery will be available.

Book: For the Fallen
In December 1921, the Melbourne Public Library launched a competition seeking a mural to honor those who gave their lives in the Great War. This study brings to life the art world involved in the controversial competition, which collapsed in August 1922.

A regular series of seminars presented by Oral History NSW and the Professional Historians Association (NSW & ACT), and hosted by the State Library of NSW. History Matters was moved online in 2020 and previous seminars are now available to watch on the Oral History NSW Youtube channel.
AHA History Graduates Survey
Do you have an undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in history or related field? Then we want you to take our survey! The Australian Historical Association is conducting this survey:
- To gain a better understanding of the career pathways and employability of all those with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in history or a degree that was historically-focused.
- To facilitate wider discussion of diverse employment pathways for history graduates.
- To identify and address issues relating to the employability of history graduates.
The survey is open from 1 March to 30 June 2021. We are hoping to capture the diverse experiences of as many history graduates as possible so please circulate the link below to your networks!
