As the new financial year is upon us, we ask that you please take the time to renew your memberships for the 2023/2024 financial year (if you have not already done so)

Expressions of Interest: Student viewing of Of Auburn
An iteration of the award-winning history drama Of Auburn for students of Humanities will be performed during History Month in May 2024. The play combines theatre, poetry, personal testimony, music, and immersive audio-visual technology to tell the stories of volunteer nurses in World War I through the real-life character of Madge Yeatman.

Z Ward: A new era
The title and keys of Z Ward have officially been handed to the National Trust. The historic site's 'Behind the walls' and 'Adelaide Haunted Horizons' tours have garnered such attention that Adelaide Haunted Horizons are now planning to double the number of tours offered.
The History Trust team is exploring possibilities for the future utilisation of Z Ward, aiming to preserve its rich heritage while contributing to the community.

Jennifer Cashmore Oration 2023: From Asylums to Community Care and Beyond - Human Rights and Mental Health: Lessons from History

Unley Museum is seeking items on LeCornu's
LeCornu's was an icon in the city for many years, and Unley Museum is interested in preserving memories of the site. If you have photographs, catalogs, brochures, or any other LeCornu's material you would be willing to donate to their collection, please email the museum at [email protected]

Flinders History Seminars Semester 2
The seminars are back on in semester 2, the next seminar featuring Dr. David Faber on 'Loveday at its Worst: The Assassination in Custody of Francesco Giovanni Fantin in Local Context'. on 25 August.

World's first exhibition of 19th century Australia's best unknown artist, Charles Rodius
The State Library of NSW is currently staging the first retrospective exhibition of Charles Rodius (1802 - 1860), featuring over 90 original watercolours, drawings, and prints, many never seen by Australian audiences. On now until 12 May 2024.

John Rymill - Polar Pioneer, by Peter Rymill
Peter Rymill will be hosting the Adelaide launch of his biography of his father, at the SA museum, 6pm, Friday 29 September. Booking details will be shared closer to the event.
Secrets of Dulwich, by Polly Dundon
The first print run of Secrets of Dulwich, which had sold out, is now back for sale with another 60 copies available.
Because of the support and encouragement of book 1, Polly has now started on 'Secrets of Dulwich, Rose Park, Toorak Gardens, and beyond.' which will be available late 2023.

Calls for papers
Extended Call for Papers: HCSA 20 Year Anniversary Book Project
Dear HCSA members, 2023 marks 20 years of the HCSA, and we are seeking expressions of interest in contributing to a commemorative anniversary book. Due to significant interest in the project, we have decided to reopen and extend the call for papers.
Submissions will be short pieces (up to 600 words + 1 image) that showcase a unique aspect of South Australian history. If you are interested in participating, please send your name, contact details and a brief description (1-2 sentences) of what you or your organisation may wish to contribute by 30 September 2023. Please also make sure you are a current financial member of the HCSA.

Editorship of the Journal of the Royal Australian Historical Society
The Royal Australian Historical Society is looking for a new editor for its biannual journal, the Journal of the royal Australian Historical Society. The appointment will be made before the end of this year by the RAHS Council. The new editor will receive a handover from the current editor Christine Yeats and the History House Team before starting in February 2024 to help prepare the June 2024 issue. The editor is supported by an Editorial Board, Publications Committee and the History House Team. Applications due 31 August 2023.
