President's News

Dear members and friends,

Our AGM was held last Wednesday evening at the Historian Hotel. We had a large turnout, and it was wonderful to be able to meet face to face at last.

Our General Committee for the next twelve months is comprised of:

Skye Krichauff – Independent
Kristy Kokegei - HTSA
Greg Slattery – Independent
Yianni Cartledge – Flinders University
Elspeth Grant – HTASA
Richard Moriarty – SLSA
David Sweet – OHS SA Branch
Meredith Ide – Burnside Historical Society
Caroline Adams – PHA SA
Helen Chadwick – SRSA
Lee Amoroso – ASA & University of Adelaide
Andrew Peake – GenealogySA
David Faber – HSAA and LH
Julia Garnaut – AmaGa SA
Brenton Griffin – Independent
Angela Bannon (or another representative) – Friends of the State Library

On behalf of the Council, I would like to farewell retiring General Committee members Pauline Cockrill and Jenny Stock and to thank them for their commitment and contribution over the past years. I would also like to warmly welcome their replacements, Julia Garnaut and Caroline Adams, and new General Committee members the Friends of the State Library and Brenton Griffin.

The new Executive Committee is comprised of:

Skye Krichauff (President)
Kristy Kokegei (Vice-President)
Greg Slattery (Treasurer)
Yianni Cartledge (Secretary)
David Sweet

Our sincere thanks to Sandra Kearney and Peter Monteath who are retiring from the History Council. Sandra has been a wonderful Secretary over the past two years. She has worked tirelessly to prepare the new website, improve our social media presence and ensure the smooth functioning of the Council. During his time as President, Peter led the Council with great foresight and he has been a wonderful source of advice over the past year. I would also like to thank Elspeth Grant for her help and expertise – Elspeth is stepping away from the Executive Committee but will continue to represent the HTA on the General Committee. Kristy, Greg and I are delighted to welcome Yianni Cartledge (our new Secretary) and David Sweet onto the Executive Committee.

We have a couple of events in the pipe-line that will take place before the end of 2020. Instead of a regional lecture, the Council will host a webinar examining colonial South Australia’s connections with slavery. This is scheduled for 21 November at 2pm. A subcommittee was formed at the AGM to plan an end of year fundraising event at which the 2021 South Australian History Council Fellow will be announced. More details about both of these events will be provided over the coming weeks.

I look forward to working with all Committee members over the next twelve months.

Best wishes,

Skye
