History Council
It is hoped that the next general meeting for the History Council will be held on Monday, 3 August at 5.30pm in the Bronwyn Halliday Room at the State Library. However, details will be provided to committee members closer to the date and will be dependent on updated State Government instructions re COVID-19 gathering restrictions. Regardless of whether we meet in person or virtually via Zoom, we hope that most committee members will attend. Brief reports can be submitted to our Secretary, Sandra Kearney, prior to the meeting.

The History Trust of South Australia: Talking History has been moved online for 2020
The Talking History program, suspended in the interest of COVID safety, is being brought back in an online format. The next Talking History event will be on Regenerating South Australia's Heritage Churches, with guest presenter Ian Hamilton, 21 July 2020, 5.30pm. Further information and registration here.

Previous Talking History events are available for listening on the History Trust's Soundcloud.

Restoration of the Grave of Osmond Gilles
A project to restore the grave of Osmond Gilles in West Terrace Cemetery, commenced by the Burnside Historical Society, was completed in late May 2020. It is hoped that it will be unveiled on the anniversary of his burial, on 25 September this year.

SA Medical Heritage Society
While the March, April, and May meetings have been cancelled, if South Australia's good record in relation to COVID-19 continues, it is hoped a face-to-face meeting will go ahead on 24 September. The next meeting will feature a talk by Professor Guy Maddern on 'Hospital vs. University: 125 years on, has anything changed'. If the meeting cannot go forward in-person, it will be in an online format.

Adelaide Town Hall virtual events
The Adelaide Town Hall is now open with the easing of restrictions, and is also offering two virtual events:

  • Thirtieth Anniversary Virtual Organ Concert Series to commemorate the anniversary of the installation of the J W Walker organ at the Hall.
  • Our Future in the Landscape art exhibition virtual tour. Lead by this year's Emerging curator, Steph Cibich, who curated the exhibition.

State Records of South Australia: information management standards feedback sought
The State Records of South Australia are working to update Information Management policy to ensure advice is current, clear, and easy to implement. Please send comments on the two new draft standards below to [email protected] by Wednesday 5 August 2020.

Parliamentary inquiry into destruction of Juukan Caves in Pilbara
A parliamentary inquiry is being held into the destruction of the Indigeous heritage sites at the Juukan Gorge in Western Australia. Submissions are requested by 31 July 2020.
