The Historian’s Dilemma: HCSA Forum for Abouttime,
5 May 2011
As its contribution to Abouttime, South Australia’s History Festival, the History Council organized a forum discussion at the State Library on Thursday 5 May 2011.
After a welcome by State Librarian Alan Smith, Wilfrid Prest as moderator introduced the four panelists to an appreciative audience of some 70 persons.
The panelists’ brief individual presentations, each addressing different aspects of the historian’s role in interpreting the past to present and future generations, were followed by comments, questions and discussion from the floor.
We are most grateful to the State Library for their hospitality (with special thanks to Bev Scott and her staff for marketing), and above all to the four presenters – John Bannon, Rosa Garcia, Alan Mayne and Rebecca Richards – for their thoughtful and illuminating remarks on a complex but fascinating topic.
